Howard W. Jones, IIIHoward W. Jones, III, M.D.

Howard W. Jones, III is the Betty and Lonnie S. Burnett Professor and Chairman of The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Jones received his B.A. degree from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and his M.D. degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He served a Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, Colorado and did a Fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston, Texas. He served in the United States Army as a Major in the Medical Corps at William Beaumont Army Medical Center from 1974-1976.

Dr. Jones has been on the faculty at Vanderbilt for over 25 years. He is a specialist in Gynecologic Oncology and has authored numerous scientific publications and co-edited several medical textbooks including the 10th Edition of TeLinde’s Textbook of Gynecologic Surgery and previous editions of Novak’s Textbook of Gynecology. He is the Editor-in-Chief for Gynecology for the Obstetrical and Gynecological Survey.

He is a member of many national and international societies. He is the immediate past-President of the International Federation for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy and is also a past-President of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. He is a member of the Society of Pelvic Surgeons, the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and served as a Board examiner from 1986 to 2002. For many years he has been an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and has served as President of the Tennessee Division and the Davidson County unit.
