Formation of the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine

Dr. Gary Hodgen recruited

Drs. Howard and Georgeanna Jones meet in the Vatican at Pontifical Academy of Scientists


1985
First pregnancy in U.S. using frozen preembryos


1986
Ad Hoc Ethics Committee of the American Fertility Society chaired by Dr. Howard Jones


1987
Fifth World Congress of IVF and Embryo Transfer in Norfolk; 1300 delegates from 41 countries (only one held in U.S.)


1988
First clinical application of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in the world


1992
Dedication of a building called “The Jones Institute” – a state of the art facility where research and clinical activities can work together in one building


1994
Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) identified, identified Tay-Sachs gene, resulting in birth of genetically normal baby who would otherwise be at risk for Tay-Sachs disease.


2004
Seasonale rights bring $20 million to EVMS. First EVMS invention to reach the consumer marketplace. Concept was brainchild of Dr. Gary Hodgen.
